Overwhelmed by your daily to-do list? Having trouble sleeping at night? If you’re like most, the stresses of day to day life can affect overall productivity, creativity and, most importantly, your happiness! In celebration of National Stress Awareness Month, we’ve rounded up our top 5 ways to destress which you can easily implement into your weekly obé routine.
1. Sweat that *ish* OUT!
To channel one of our favorite lines from one of our favorite movies: “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands” (thank you, Elle Woods!). But really, working out is one of the best ways you can destress. Get in your daily 28 minutes to pump up your endorphins which then release dopamine & serotonin – your happiness hormones! The post obé glow is a real thing.
2. Add in a weekly Restorative Stretch or Flow Class
If you haven’t tried one of our Restorative Stretch classes yet, add it into your weekly routine! It’s an incredible way to unwind & reflect after a long week – grab a bolster (or a pillow/couch cushion) and be prepared to zen out. If you’re looking to also build some heat, try a Flow class with our new instructor, Eve K.! Added bonus: light candles or use a lavender essential oil to set the mood.
3. Don’t forget to breathe!
When we’re stressed, we tend to hold our breathe. If you’re having a moment of panic, try this quick breathing exercise from Brene Brown. It will immediately calm you down & help you to tackle any task ahead (workout included!).
– Breathe in for a count of 4
– Hold for a count of 4
– Breathe out for a count of 4
– Repeat 3 times
4. Get outside
Spring is a gorgeous time to get out and get moving! Bring obé with you to the park or for a quick breather on the office roof. Sometimes all we need is a little fresh air to reconnect and ground ourselves back to the things that matter most.
5. Unplug daily
Carve time out of your day that is screen free! Whether you’re at a desk job all day or just checking IG, finding times to unplug will also help YOU to unplug. Spend time with your loved ones or choose one of the activities from the above list – don’t check your phone during those set times and you’ll notice a huge difference.
